About This TripThis is an 10 Day / 9 Night mission trip to Russia.
This team will visit Various Sites.
In 2010 a group of listeners from WCSG, WAYfm and MNN traveled to Russia on a trip to serve orphans in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region. Excitement about the opportunities to minister to the children and continue relationships built caused listeners from the stations to return the following summer. Since then, trip participants from those previous trips, along with new individuals from around the U.S., have joined this team and are yet to return again this summer! Additional individual team members are needed to help with this ministry opportunity to continue to build relationships with the children. During the summer months it is traditional for orphanages to take the children to camp outside the city. Unfortunately there are few planned activities and the children spend their days with little to do, adding to a feeling of helplessness. By visiting these children and sharing God's word, you will be able to make a huge impact in their lives.
When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, its shaky orphan-care system also fell. Alcohol consumption increased to 10 times the U.S. level. The instances of divorce also climbed, along with the HIV-infection rate, which is now one of the highest in the world. And, according to a 2007 UNICEF report, the annual number of children without parental care in Russia "has more than doubled over the last 10 years, despite falling birth rates." Currently, there are over 750,000 children in the orphanage system and hundreds of thousands more living in the streets. The goal of Orphan Outreach in Russia is to involve and empower local churches to do the work of orphan care. The ministry focus is on orphan graduates-those orphans who are leaving the orphanage system. Without essential living skills, education, or employment possibilities, many of these young people resort to addictions, prostitution, or suicide. To help prevent such outcomes, Orphan Outreach has begun to support local orphanages and ministries to bridge a child's transition from orphan-care to independent living.
Kim Blount, Ministry Volunteer
Kim is married to Joel and mother of two beautiful children, Anastasia and Joshua. She and her family live in Grand Rapids, Michigan and attend Immanuel Lutheran Church. Her love for Russia began in September of 2004 when she traveled to Kursk, Russia with her husband to meet their children. They brought them home 11 long months later in August of 2005. Joel and Kim went on their first mission trip in 2011 and have been blessed to return to St. Petersburg each summer ever since. She led her first team in 2013 and looks forward to the opportunity to do it again this year. Kim worked in the telecommunications industry for almost twenty years. She now works part time, which allows her to spend more time with her family as well to volunteer at different organizations that deal with orphan care ministry.
The team will stay in hotels close to the ministry sites. The land cost is based on double-occupancy rooms with bathrooms. If you would like to have your own room, there will be an additional cost and please email email@example.com.
