About This Trip

This is an 9 Day / 8 Night mission trip to Ukraine.
This team will visit Alpha Life, Government Homes.

Join us in Ukraine to serve alongside the Alpha Life staff that ministry to orphan graduates in the city of Dnipropetrovsk! We will have several ways for you to use your gifts and abilities! Some will be serving with a professional climbing team that will be working to inspire young people, especially those with disabilities, to flourish by participating in a climbing clinic! Others will be able to spend time with children and teens while teaching Bible lessons/devotions, conducting therapeutically informed small group activities, recreation, and much more! We will do our best to match your skills, career, and your willingness to care for you people, with the needs of the children and teens in Dnipro.

About Ukraine

When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, its shaky orphan-care system also fell. Alcohol consumption increased to 10 times the U.S. level. The instances of divorce also climbed, along with the HIV-infection rate, which is now one of the highest in the world. And, according to a 2007 UNICEF report, the annual number of children without parental care in Russia "has more than doubled over the last 10 years, despite falling birth rates." Currently, there are over 750,000 children in the orphanage system and hundreds of thousands more living in the streets. The goal of Orphan Outreach in Russia is to involve and empower local churches to do the work of orphan care. The ministry focus is on orphan graduates-those orphans who are leaving the orphanage system. Without essential living skills, education, or employment possibilities, many of these young people resort to addictions, prostitution, or suicide. To help prevent such outcomes, Orphan Outreach has begun to support local orphanages and ministries to bridge a child's transition from orphan-care to independent living.

Team Leader

Rey Diaz, Executive Director

For 17 years Rey has been working to meet the holistic needs of children trapped in poverty. He studied at Fuller Theological Seminary earning his Doctorate in Intercultural Studies with a focus on Missiology and Children at Risk. After his studies, Rey moved to Honduras where he worked with a locally lead project, serving the needs of children from the garbage dump. He then came back to the United States to serve as the Lead Pastor of Washington Cathedral. Rey''s passion is to mobilize the Church to respond to the needs of orphans around the world, as he believes this is central to our Father''s heart. Rey enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children, reading, and playing sports (when not injured from playing sports).

Orphan Outreach Mission Trip Baggage Policy

All mission trip participants are responsible for the cost of their checked baggage. When traveling internationally, most airlines allow passengers to carry two checked bags at 50 pounds maximum. The cost of checked baggage depends on where you are traveling and your status with the airline. For the most up to date baggage allowances and fees, please check with each airline you are traveling on.

Occasionally we may ask trip participants to carry humanitarian aid and items needed for ministry in country. To save the cost of having to pay for the second bag on the return flight home, you can stuff a bag inside your other bag. Please ask before leaving behind a bag in your country of service.
