Love is Always in Style

It's hard to believe this is our last update from Guatemala. The team is now tucked in their rooms here in Guatemala City, and the airport shuttles begin departing at 4am for the flights back home. In some ways, it feels like we've been together for the longest time, and yet our time serving here has flown far too quickly.

The team had a truly beautiful time at breakfast this morning. Becca read her guest post to the team (because most of us haven't yet had an opportunity to see what's been sent to you all); her heart felt every single word, and she brushed away tears as the words were shared. We are there with Becca - there's nothing that feels like normalcy as we reach out and hold kids and serve as best we can. And it's that lack of normalcy that lets us see just how powerful and gracious and tender God really is. To think that He invites us in to the broken places to share and receive His grace. What an honor.

After breakfast, we returned to Chimaltenango to enjoy the (all too short) afternoon with the girls at Mi Especial Tesoro (My Special Treasure). We enjoyed lunch with them, and then hosted a special "pamper party" - the girls (and some of the gals on our team) had facials and deluxe manicures. Just sitting with our friends and talking about school and life was wonderful. Some of the girls are now attending a youth group at a nearby church, and almost all of them are enrolled in vocational programs in addition to school. They're all growing up to be such beautiful young women.

After the party was over, the girls were surprised with a special treat - new outfits complete with accessories. Bella Goncalves did an excellent job of putting together the clothes, and the girls especially loved the jewelry and scarves. We had a little fashion show (everyone participated), and then those sweet girls began singing. Everyone was mesmerized. And when they sang "Gloria en Lo Alto," the tears began to flow. The tears didn't stop as we said our farewells.

At the beginning of our journey together, we each received the name of a team member who we committed to pray for throughout the week. Tonight, we shared what we had seen in that person while ministering together. I don't know about everyone else, but I'll tuck my note in my Bible and cherish it (thank you again, Bella). And I'll tuck the memories of this trip away in my heart. It's been an honor to serve alongside such an incredible team of women. They were fearless, they were generous, they were grace-full to everyone they met. And they have seen what happens when Christ's love is poured out fully.

Thank you all for your support of our team this week. Give your sweet ladies huge hugs when you see them. Let them share their stories, and let them shed a few tears when they talk about the kids they love and the Central American country that has found a place in their hearts. And perhaps, join them next time. I'd love to meet you, and I know the sweet people of Guatemala would love to too.

Blessings to you all!
Ronne
